The International Symposium on Antimicrobial Drug Reduction Paths and Sustainable Development of Animal Husbandry was held in Rongchang, Chongqing

      On April 25-26, the "International Seminar on Antimicrobial Reduction Pathways and Sustainable Animal Husbandry Development" co-sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Rongchang District of Chongqing was held in Rongchang, Chongqing.

      In recent years, the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials in human health and agricultural production have accelerated the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance, which has attracted great attention from China and the international community.

     and Rural Affairs, pointed out in his speech that as the world's largest producer of animal husbandry and consumer of livestock and poultry products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs attaches great importance to the management of antimicrobial drugs such as veterinary antimicrobials and resistance prevention and control work, and implements a strict approval and access system for newly declared veterinary antimicrobials. Implementation of exit policies based on risk assessment for approved drugs, strengthening supervision of the use of veterinary antimicrobials in livestock and poultry farming, advocating the use of reduction actions, and achieving positive results. He said that China appreciates FAO's 10-year action initiative to "Reduce the need for and dependence on antimicrobials and promote the Transformation of Sustainable Agri-Food Systems (RENOFARM)", and is willing to work with FAO and other countries to deepen research and experience sharing, actively promote alternatives and best practices of antimicrobials, and jointly contribute to the sustainable development of animal husbandry industry. 

      With the theme of "Reducing dependence on and demand for antimicrobials and promoting the transformation of agri-food system", the conference attracted more than 200 experts and scholars from 35 countries around the world, domestic and foreign, nearly 50 livestock enterprises and related scientific research institutions to gather together to exchange antimicrobial drug reduction paths and share experience and measures in animal husbandry. Promote the concept of antimicrobial drug reduction to support sustainable livestock development, and form a consensus on antimicrobial drug reduction use paths and measures.

FAO Officials and experts from domestic and abroad jointly launch the "Rongchang Propose"


      At the symposium, FAO officials, together with national and international experts, will launch the "Reducing the Need for Antimicrobials in Support of Green Animal Husbandry - Rongchang Propose", which encourages farmers to reduce the use of antimicrobials through the use of vaccines, enhanced biosecurity measures, improved animal welfare, advanced feeding practices and integrated biological control. At the same time, countries are called on to strengthen the monitoring and information sharing of antimicrobial use, and strengthen the exchange and learning of experience in the use of antimicrobial reduction, so as to promote the sustainable development of animal husbandry and safeguard public health security.

       During the meeting, Qiao Shiyan, Li Defa, Yin Yulong, Shu Hongbing, Jin Meilin five academician expert team and Rongchang District people's government signed the "Support Rongchang antimicrobial drug reduction and sustainable development of animal husbandry strategic cooperation Agreement". The two sides will carry out strategic cooperation in four aspects: building a deep industry-academy-research cooperation mechanism, encouraging the transformation of antimicrobial drug reduction technical research achievements in Rongchang, providing technical guidance for the livestock industry's antimicrobial drug reduction, and building a livestock and veterinary personnel training and transportation system, so as to further improve the strength and level of Rongchang District as a national animal science and technology city. Enhance the international visibility and influence of Rongchang animal husbandry industry, and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of animal husbandry, green and circular development and high-quality development.
